Location

Summary

We'll paddle from the WRC ramp on White Stocking Road to the WRC ramp on Shaw Hwy, downstream on the Northeast Cape Fear River. Trip Length is 5-6 miles.

Description

Join the CFRW paddlers as we explore the Northeast Cape Fear River between Sawpit Landing (off White Stocking Road) and the Shaw Highway Wildlife ramp. This is a great section of river with a textbook example of an oxbow lake, several nice coves, and a few creeks to poke our heads into. The trip is 5-6 miles depending on how much exploring you do (and how straight you can paddle).

We will meet at the CFRW headquarters at 617 Surry Street, Wilmington, NC 28401 at 7:45am. We will caravan from CFRW to the put-in at White Stocking Road and unload all the boats. We will then take the vehicles to the take-out on Shaw Highway and shuttle folks back to start the trip. Click here for a map to the put in so you are famaliar with the route, or in case you would prefer to meet us there at 8:45am.  Click here for a map from the put-in to the take out (the shuttle route). We should be paddling by 10:00am and back in Wilmington around 2pm at the latest. If you want to eat at the famous Holland's Fish Camp you'll need to add an hour or so for that.

Current CFRW members can rent CFRW boats on a first come first served basis for $15 per boat. Contact Kemp at 910-762-5606 or kemp@cfrw.us to reserve your boat, recieve confirmation,  or ask any questions you may have about the trip. Bring a PFD (unless you use a CFRW boat and then we will bring one for you), appropriate clothes, water, a camera, and whatever else you like to have with you on the water. Feel free to also bring a bag lunch to eat but keep in mind that Holland's is always a favorite part of the trip.

If you would like to join or renew before the paddle, you can click here to join online or call Jen Cole at 910-762-5606.

To help River Watch continue to bring you great programs like our Paddle Series and Educational Seminars, we ask you make a $10 donation per paddler with your registration.
(You can bring cash or check to the paddle on Saturday, but it's super easy to make the donation with your registration!).  THANK YOU!

Hope to see you on the water!
