Description

Well, its that time of year again-temperatures are dropping, the days are getting shorter and its time to wrap up the CFRW Paddle Series for the year with one last trip. Following tradition, after the paddle we will celebrate with an oyster roast and potluck at Belville Park on the banks of the Brunswick River. Paddlers and non-paddlers are invited to attend the celebration.

November's paddle route will begin at the Davis Creek put-in in Navassa. We'll paddle down Davis Creek, turn right on the Cape Fear River, hang another right into the Brunswick River, turn left into Alligator Creek and wind through Eagles Island (crossing under the 74/76 hwy bridge at low tide), then cross the Brunswick River to take out at the Belville boat ramp. The trip is about 6 miles.

Paddle Route

Paddlers can meet at the CFRW office (617 Surry Street, Wilmington) at 8:30 to caravan to the put-in or meet the group at Davis Creek at 9:15 am. Once we unload the boats at Davis Creek we will run a very short shuttle over to Belville so our cars are waiting there for us when we arrive. We should be paddling by 10ish and pulling out around 1ish. A map to the put in can be found HERE (just click "get directions" and enter your starting location in box A for detailed directions). The Belville boat ramp and park are located on hwy 133, across from Belville Elementary School, south of the hwy 74/76 overpass.

All paddlers should wear a PFD, however those paddlers using CFRW boats are required to wear a PFD.  Other items to remember include sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, water, snack and water shoes if you would like to explore the beaches where oyster shells are present. You are welcome to bring your own kayak and supplies.

If you need to rent a boat they are just $15 for the day if you are a CFRW Member. If you would like to rent a boat please indicate such during your registration. *You no longer need to contact Kemp to confirm your boat registration. Once you receive your email receipt for your online registration your boat has been confirmed and we will see you the day of the paddle. The boats for members to use are listed for selection during the registration (by single kayak, tandem kayak or canoe) and are first come first serve.

If you would like to join or renew before the paddle, you can click here to join online or call Jen at 910-762-5606.  To help River Watch continue to bring you great programs like our Paddle Series and Educational Seminars, we ask you make a $10 donation either online with your registration or by bringing cash or check to the paddle on Saturday.  THANK YOU!

We hope you will bring a dish to share at the potluck. CFRW will buy and roast oysters and we ask that you chip in $5 if you plan on eating oysters. Bring your own beverages (alcohol is not permitted in Brunswick County parks). If you need help the day of please call Kemp at 910-264-8036.
